Situated on a compound with approximately 40 buildings ranging from housing to medical facilities to administrative, the Centre employs 130+ people each day. Only 4 of these are expatriate missionaries. The Medical Clinic alone serves more than 250 out-patients daily, has a dental clinic, chaplaincy office, and HIV/AIDS counseling and treatment centre.

The Medical Centre at Bamenda is in need of a major upgrade to its electrical system if it is to continue to function effectively. The pictures in this brochure represent only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the upgrading needed. Cal Hohn, Field Director for the Bamenda Mission Station stated in a recent email that several more computers were “fried” due to electrical surges.
Without a proper and consistent supply of electricity the work that needs to be carried on by the various departments at Bamenda suffers greatly. In North America we realize how important a reliable supply of electricity is for our hospitals and clinics. Without it, most facilities would have to shut down and end up offering a substandard level of care. It is no different at Bamenda.
To meet this need both financial resources and personnel are required. Finances to cover the cost of equipment and travel. Personnel to assist in installation of necessary equipment and training of Cameroonians to maintain the system in the years to come. Without you, this need will go unmet!
Due to the size and scope of the Bamenda Electrical Project, the work to be done has been broken down into three phases. Each phase of the project will proceed as financial resources become available.
Phase 1 • Install Infrastructure
For the project to have a solid foundation for future development the appropriate infrastructure needs to be put in place. This will involve running underground cable and installing lights at the Bamenda compound.
The cost for this phase of the project will be approximately $122,000. This is for materials, shipping, duty, project managers’ travel as well as national labour hired to complete the project.
Phase 2 • Install Distribution System & Switchgear
Building on phase 1 of the project, phase 2 will include establishing a distribution system on all the buildings on the Bamenda Compound as well as installing switchgear for the transformer and generator.
The cost for this phase of the project will be approximately $85,000. The money will again cover the cost of materials, shipping, duty, project managers’ travel and national labour.
Phase 3 • Rewiring of Buildings
Phase 3 will see the installation of electrical panels on each building and wiring for lights and electrical outlets.
The cost for phase 3 will be approximately $76,000. This will cover materials, shipping, duty, project managers’ travel and national labour.
Total Project Cost: $283,000

Note: The projected cost of each phase does not include travel costs of individual team members who volunteer to become part of a work team.

You help is needed! Are you willing to give?
By giving to this project, you will make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of all the people who are ministered to at Baptist Centre. You are encouraged to give in one or both of the following ways:
Financially: By contributing financial resources you will help ensure the proper electrical equipment is supplied and the project is completed in a timely manner.
Go: By being willing to go to Bamenda, Cameroon with a team of others to complete the work, you will not only see the great need yourself but also have the satisfaction of physically helping to meet that need. The scope of the project is significant, even by North American standards. Therefore numerous teams will be needed to complete the work over the next several years.
